HOW TO CLEAN YOUR OVEN?

Cleaning your oven is a tough chore to tackle, whether you bake occasionally or make large meals every night, its unrealistic to keep the oven perfectly clean all the time. But it’s important to tackle, nevertheless.

If you’ve ever looked at the ingredients on the label of commercial oven cleaner, you know it’s a laundry list of chemicals. They contain a range of chemicals which can irritate your respiratory system and burn your skin, lungs and eyes.

Fortunately, we have compiled some of the best oven-cleaning hacks to rid your gas or electric range of built up dirty and grease-or even just a simple spill.

As far as we’re concerned the best oven cleaner you can buy is baking soda. Yes that’s right! Baking soda is a non toxic, inexpensive, easy to use and remarkably effective on cleaning oven grease. In most cases, basic soda works its magic in just 15 minutes.

To get started with your homemade oven cleaner, mix up 1/2 cup of baking soda with water or vinegar to form a paste. Spread the paste all over the bottom of your oven. We would advise putting on some rubber gloves and using your fingers to make sure the mixture gets everywhere, including the stubborn caked-on dirt. Leave the mixture on for a minimum of two hours, but note it’s also a great way to clean an oven overnight. The acid in the vinegar will react with the baking soda, causing it to foam.

To get every little nook and cranny clean, use an old toothbrush. All those hard-to-reach areas and corners in your oven are difficult to clean. Just dip your toothbrush in any cleaning solution and you will be amazed at how easy cleaning those corners will be.

Now, its time to think about those oven racks! This is normally the hardest part of cleaning the oven right? Well, not anymore.

We’ve got an extra secret tip that really works.

Pour some washing powder into a bath of hot water and put your oven racks into it overnight. All the grime will be easy to remove after a little scrub in the morning.

Now for the satisfying part: cleaning oven glass. Use the same baking soda and water mixture you used, apply the paste to the inside of your oven window. Let it sit for half an hour then, using a cloth, wipe the window clean.

The next day morning is the time! Head to your oven and with a damp cloth wipe away the dried paste, Magic!

While you’re planning to clean your oven every three months, it’s also helpful to clean as you go. If you notice drippings from food, grease marks, or crumbs building up at the bottom of the appliance, be sure to wipe these away as soon as possible. Simple wipe down at regular intervals, it will prevent, caked-on spots from turning into stubborn stains down the road.
