If you can spot a piece of the key sticking out of the lock, use a bit of oil to grease the lock first. Carefully spray the oil into the lock in between the key and cylinder*. Don’t be afraid to be generous with the oil. Then, next use a pair of scissors or pliers to pull out the broken key. You’ll have to wiggle it a bit if needed.
(*Cylinder is a pin: When the key is inserted, the pins move into the correct position so that key can be turned and the door can be opened)
If the key broken inside the lock is out of reach, don’t lose hope, because you can still easily fix it with a couple of tools. You could use a strong magnet to pull the key out. Of course, not everybody owns a strong magnet, and the key might be stuck so bad for this trick to work. If so, you can use a pair of tweezers or a straightened-out paper clip to pull it out.
Did you manage to get the key out of the lock? Great! All you need to do now is to get a copy of the broken key.
If all fails, there nothing much even a locksmith can do, but change the lock!
